Georgia law does not require you to hire a lawyer to prepare a will.  However, wills have specific execution requirements, and mistakes may not become apparent until after your death, when they can be difficult, costly, and/or impossible to correct.  An attorney can help make sure your documents are properly prepared, properly signed and actually accomplish what you intend.

It depends on your circumstances.  For many people, a basic estate plan includes a will, financial power of attorney, and advance directive for health care.  Some clients may also benefit from a trust or other planning documents.  I work directly with you to determine what makes sense for your family rather than simply selling you a package of documents which may not accomplish your goals.

Not everyone needs a trust.  A will may be perfectly appropriate for many families, while a trust can be useful when avoiding probate, managing property for beneficiaries, or addressing other particular circumstances is important.  I can help you understand the difference and decide which approach makes sense for you.

The cost depends on what documents you need and the complexity of your situation.  I discuss the scope of the work and the fee with you before we begin, so you know what your estate plan will cost before moving forward.  The majority of my clients pay a one-time flat fee.  They know what to expect and there are no hidden surprises.

The process depends on whether the person left a will and on the assets and circumstances of the estate.  Georgia probate may involve filing a petition with the probate court, appointment of an executor or administrator, handling estate assets and debts, and ultimately distributing property to the beneficiaries or heirs.  I can help you determine what needs to be filed and represent your interests throughout the process.
